A favorStrengths

  • Un juego de espejos más compacto y simétrico que el de la esmeralda.1A hall of mirrors that’s more compact and symmetrical than an emerald cut’s.1
  • Muchos muestran una “X” característica al mirarlos de frente.1Many show a distinctive “X” face up.1

A tener en cuentaKeep in mind

  • Como toda talla escalonada, deja ver las inclusiones y el color con más facilidad que una brillante.1Like any step cut, it shows inclusions and body color more readily than a brilliant.1
  • Conviene elegirlo con mayor pureza y mejor color.45It pays to choose higher clarity and better color.45

Talla escalonadaStep cut

Peldaños de luz, no chispas.Steps of light, not sparks.

In a step cut, the facets are long and trapezoid-shaped, set around the table like the steps of a staircase.1 There are fewer of them and they’re larger, so the diamond sparkles less, but it creates a hall-of-mirrors effect: broad, calm flashes rather than pinpoint sparkle.15

Esas facetas grandes y abiertas tienen un precio: las inclusiones y el color se notan más que en una talla brillante.145 Por eso no la juzgamos con la vara de un redondo.

That crispness comes at a price: with large, open facets, inclusions and color show more than in a brilliant cut.145 That’s why we don’t judge it by the standards of a round.
